Dr. Mike Maixner's company, Butterfly Ballet, is reaching out in memory of his beautiful butterfly dancer, Danalee, to raise Ovarian Cancer awareness, fund research, and foster the love of dance. It is the goal of Butterfly Ballet to someday bring the curtain down on Ovarian Cancer.
The Pas de Trois (dance for three) pendant that is the centerpiece of Butterfly Ballet was originally designed by Mike back in 1984 as a birthday gift for his beloved wife, Danalee. Mike was a Navy Dentist at the time and wrapped his unique design in old dental school gold "and a lot of love!"
By patenting this one-of-a-kind Butterfly Ballet design, and with guidance from prestigious, nationally known Stuller Jewelers, the now retired Navy dentist has recreated the pendant for women of all ages in several different forms of jewelry and in various price ranges.
It is the aim of the Butterfly Ballet Company to use a portion of all proceeds for Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Research, with the goal of eventually eradicating Ovarian Cancer altogether.
The Butterfly Ballet design now also adorns specialty dark and milk chocolates by Peterbrooke Chocolatier. "Dana loved chocolate and she loved to help others," recalls Mike. "She is smiling as she dances in the stars because she knows that each beautiful Pas de Trois piece of chocolate is packaged and labeled with the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer." The chocolates are available by special order at Peterbrooke's corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, FL.
When Dana returned to Mike in a dream last year, magic and miracles began to happen for him. Butterfly Ballet was one of them. Music soon became another avenue for raising Ovarian Cancer awareness and funding, as Mike began to write songs for the first time in his life. Soon, he was collaborating with Guitarist and Folksinger David Milam and Music Producer Jamie DeFrates. The CD, "My Danalee, Songs of Love & Inspiration," resulted from that collaboration.
